After our return to the US, Pierre and Job got busy with our first two goals: to buy student benches for each of the schools, and to distribute the first round of scholarship money.
With this post, we are proud to report that Job successfully oversaw the construction of 150 new benches by a local carpenter and delivered them to each of the six schools. In addition, Job distributed scholarship application forms and Pierre and Ellen selected 88 students, spread across each of the six schools, for the first year’s scholarships.
During our trip to Cameroon, Jacob asked Pierre’s brother Festus about the impact the AAOOL is having on Baligham.
For this first round, we based our selections on need and enthusiasm, as well as trying to spread the scholarships through the various grade levels. Our plan is to continue scholarships for each of these students as long as they perform well. Our hope is to double the number of students we are able to help by the fall of 2016.
