In the coming year, we will continue to raise money for scholarships and begin building a fund to address other needs at each of the schools. Headmasters have requested such items as windows and doors for classrooms, textbooks, blackboards and chalk, computers, toys for nurseries, pens/pencils/notebooks.

In addition, we hope to expand our scholarship and supplies purchases to each of the nursery schools housed at the elementary schools. These early education programs help instill a love of learning and a sense of community in the very youngest children. The nurseries need toys and books and, like the older students, teaching tools and scholarships.

The schools of Baligham are simple one-story mud brick structures, usually housing one or two classrooms, with open windows and doors. At most, these schoolrooms have a chalkboard at either end and benches for the students. There is an on-going need for simple tools—like chalk and pens and pencils—and a deeper need for books and other more sophisticated equipment, perhaps computers or microscopes.

Our priority for the near future is to expand our scholarship program and continue to helpschools with basic supplies. Our long term goal is to bring new resources to each of the schools and nurseries. Here’s a link to some more photos of our trip to Baligham schools during summer 2015.
